Keelung is a city closely tied to the sea. Inspired by natural elements, the façade of the Zhengbin Visitor Center mimics rippling waves in the breeze, welcoming visitors with an open form. Its white exterior stands out against the colorful surroundings, making it a future landmark of Zhengbin Fishing Harbor. At night, soft white lighting enhances its presence, creating a glowing focal point along the waterfront. Integrated landscape lighting further enriches the harbor’s nighttime scenery. This project revitalizes an underused site as part of Zhengbin Fishing Harbor’s redevelopment. Improved groundscaping and lighting transform the once-neglected rear spaces into a key link in the harbor’s tourism network, connecting the historic fishermen’s association, colorful Zhengbin houses, and Agenna Shipyard. The open plaza design minimizes obstructions, making it ideal for future markets, concerts, and public events.
Keelung’s economy is driven by the maritime industry. The interior design incorporates elements from fishing vessels, such as functional lighting and cabin-inspired details, adding character to the space. Exhibition areas are integrated across different levels, inviting visitors to explore Keelung’s history and local stories. Warm wooden tones and a welcoming atmosphere reinforce the theme—coming to Keelung should feel like coming home. All lighting fixtures use LED technology, carefully positioned to minimize disturbance to neighboring residences. A well-balanced lighting strategy ensures the project achieves its intended ambiance while respecting the surrounding environment. Located in Keelung’s Zhongzheng District, the site includes the existing Zhengbin Police Station and is accessible via Zhongzheng Road. To the northwest, an open lot near Zhengbin Fishing Harbor currently serves as a parking area but will be transformed into a visitor center, select shop, and café, creating a new attraction for tourists. Zhongzheng Road connects key destinations such as Keelung Harbor, Heping Island, Badouzi Fishing Harbor, and the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, forming a continuous tourism corridor. Blending culture, industry, and community, this space invites visitors to experience Keelung’s unique character. Soft textures, warm furnishings, and cozy seating create a home-like atmosphere. With coffee, light refreshments, and stories woven into every corner, the space welcomes both travelers and locals with warmth and hospitality.
